#Toronto rally for Quebec Students

#Toronto Mounted Police in riot gear assemble beside the walls of Old City Hall while a rally in support of the Quebec Student Strikers takes place across the street. A group of about 50 peaceful protesters has been at Queen Street W and James Street adjacent to the Eaton Centre for about an hour on Thursday, April 26, 2012 during the noon hour as a speaker addresses the crowd with the help of a microphone. Pedestrians have to go onto the road on many occasions to bypass the protesters. The crowd is watched more closely by a Metro Toronto bicycle police officer.
The Quebec student strike has been ongoing for about three months over planned tuition fare hikes and what La CLASSE has been termed “the struggle about the very future of Quebec itself.” The website Centre for Social Justice says “Join us for a rally in front of Québec's Office in Toronto in solidarity with the ongoing student strike. On this occasion, we will be delivering a petition to be sent to the Premier's office in Québec. With this action, we also want to contribute to bringing this great movement's democratic and combative spirit to Ontario.”
